Fracture

If you've seen at least one episode of any Law & Order or CSI then you should be familiar with some of the plot of movie Fracture. That is if you want to see it. Anthony Hopkins plays Ted, an old man who shoots his wife after finding out that she is having an affair. Now here's the twist, the man she's having the affair with is the officer who Ted allows to enter his house. Of course before the cops show up Ted does his best to clean up the evidence, and hide his gun. When the police show up Ted confesses to the crime, and is arrested.

The case is given to a young hotshot attorney named Willy who is play by Ryan Goslin. Willy think that this will be an open and shut case, but he doesn't what surprises Ted has in store for him. Of course his mind is on other things like the job he's about to take at a corporate law firm. Ted makes Willy's life miserable during the first trial, when the cop takes the stand he tells the court that the cop had an affair with his wife. Now Willy must find new evidence or he could lose the case.

Fracture has the potential to be a good movie, but it has a lot of flaws. Hopkins was great as Hannibal Lector, but he's seem to have lost ability to play the role of a cold blooded killer. It seems that age a finally caught up to him. At some points the movie seems to move at fast pace, only to slow down to a crawl. In other words it feels longer than its 1 hour and 52 minute running time. At one point a actually thought about leaving the theater. I couldn't do it, because I wanted to see if it would live up to the hype. Sadly it doesn't.

Fracture is just that a really fractured movie that jumps from one scene to the next with little explanation as to where the characters are, or why their there. Sometimes a character would show up unexpectedly. For example when the cop shows up at Willy's house, you can't help think "What the heck is he doing there?"

At first the movie keeps you guessing, because of all the twists and turns in the plot which is the one thing I liked. However, it becomes predicable towards the end.

Fans of crime dramas should stick to Law & Order or CSI or any other crime show, because this movie isn't worth the cost of admission. Wait for the DVD.

I give this movie a 5 out of 10.
